FAQ Defensive Driving
How often may I take a Driver Improvement course for points reduction? In accordance with O.C.G.A §40-5-86, licensed Georgia residents may request that DDS reduce the number of points assessed against their Georgia Driver’s license. Up to 7 points may be reduced once every 5 years. I was 5 minutes late arriving for class and the instructor would not allow me to attend the class. Can they do that? Yes. All schools have strict attendance policies, which are outlined in the paperwork. You sign paperwork when you contract with a school to attend one of its courses. You will be expected to arrive on time and to complete each session. Students that arrive late to any session can expect to be denied entry into class and may be required to start the course over again, at full cost. In addition, students that are absent or leave early from any session may be required to start the course over again, at full cost. It is recommended that you consider the course schedule carefully and take into account any potential scheduling conflicts you may have before signing a contract to attend I took a Driver Improvement course for license reinstatement.  Can I use the same Certificate of Completion for points reduction? When you submit the Certificate of Completion to a DDS Customer Service Center, you must inform them at that time that you wish to use it for both license reinstatement and points reduction. What is the cost of a Driver Improvement Course? For license reinstatement, points reduction, or court purposes, clinics must charge $95. For Driver Improvement classes taken for any other reason, clinics may charge a fee up to $95. Other reasons include insurance premium reduction and educational purposes.

I had an issue come up from my past which presented me with a unique set of challenges due to looming timeline, logistics (where the infraction occurred), I live in another state and governmental agencies not sharing information, some of which are now defunct 20-plus years later.I did a Google search and Barber’s Driving School in Columbus, Georgia was the first one that came up as being DDS Certified which offered Zoom classes. I am so glad I found them to take the required classes. Not only were they professional and highly organized in their structure and platform. I had the immense pleasure of being part of a class that was taught by Mr. Andre Tarver. He was engaging, very immersive and taught in an inclusive, non-judgmental fashion. He was so real, and I felt a deep connection to his teaching method. A great teacher!! He related to everyone’s stories and passed on his wisdom. He had a great teaching method. If you ever have the unfortunate luck to have to attend a mandatory risk reduction class I recommend the Barber Driving school, and if you’re fortunate enough you might be assigned Mr. Tarver as your instructor.I came out of the class with a better understanding of myself, my habits and how to live better by making more low risk choices!Thank you to Barber’s and Mr. Tarver!!

Had gotten arrested for a DUI and needed to go to classes. I was dreading having to sit in classes for hours about how “drinking was bad” and so on. Barbers driving school allowed me to use zoom video calling to complete my 20 required hours with Andre. I wish I could give more than just 5 stars just because Andre made the class very productive but also made it his goal to listen and understand his class very well. He did not judge a single one of us and helped encourage and guide us in the right paths on doing better on not making mistakes like we’ve made again. Thank you Andre and Barbers driving school!

I had to do a zoom meeting and my instructor was so nice and helpful, I couldn’t of asked for a better class then hers. I highly recommend taking her class, she teaches so much about driving that most of us would of never thought of. Her name is Celia Brooks. One of the best teachers and mentors out there!! Without her I wouldn’t of made a 100 on the test nor get the certificate I needed. So I really do appreciate everything she’s done and it was a best 6 hours of teaching.

Mr. Andre was a fantastic instructor who made this experience much more relaxed than a similar class I attended previously, at another location. His teaching method kept everyone engaged throughout the class and allowed students to share about their experiences without judgement.
