Preparing for Driver Education
 

The Driver’s Ed classroom consists of 30 hours of classroom instruction and meets Joshua’s Law requirements.

  • It may be taken on Zoom or In-Person
  • You can always change your selection, even once the class has started
  • Class Times are 9am-5:30pm for 4 days
  • Lunch Break is 12:30pm-1:30pm
  • If you signed up for the class and the behind the wheel lessons, one certificate will be issued upon completion of both

If you signed up for Behind The Wheel hours:

  • You will receive a “Welcome to DriveScout” email with your username and password
  • Login to Drivescout and schedule the student’s driving lessons
  • Try to schedule with the same instructor, if possible
  • We pick up and take home in Columbus
  • You must call to schedule your road test (no later than a week in advance)

Attending Driver’s Ed classroom on Zoom: 

You can use a cell phone, computer, tablet or any other device that lets you download the zoom app., has a web cam and audio capability (microphone and speaker).

  • Watch a quick zoom tutorial
  • Please email a good, up-close picture of the front of the student’s permit to barbersdriving@gmail.com
  • You must have your video and audio turned on at all times, except during breaks, with your face visible
  • You will not receive credit for the class if you can’t be seen and heard
  •  You will receive your zoom link on the Friday before class starts
  • It will be emailed to the student and parent’s email
  •  The email will provide a direct link to the zoom meeting and a passcode
  • If you start on zoom and decide to switch to In-Person, no problem, just come on in at your regular time

  


Attending Driver’s Ed classroom In-Person: 

Show up at 3709 Gentian Blvd. (Across the street from SkyZone) at 8:45am

  • Please be on time with drop off and pickup
  • Please bring pen, paper and permit (if you have one)
  • Lunch break 12:30-1:30
    • Students can bring a packed lunch
    • We have a Chinese and a Pizza restaurant in our complex
    • Students can walk the bike trail to Burger King, if parents are okay with this 
    • Parents can pick the student up or bring lunch to them
  • If you miss a class, you must call us to reschedule the missed day(s)
  •  Notify thr classroom instructor if you know in advance you will have to miss.

Preparing for Defensive Driving/Driver Improvement
 

Defensive Driving is 6 hours long with a 1 hour lunch or dinner break after 3 hours of attendance.

 

  • This class is for NON-ALCOHOL and DRUG related offenses
  • Arrive or Log-In On TIME (EASTERN TIME)
  • If you miss your scheduled class, you will not lose your money 
  • Call or email us to make arrangements for a future date

Attending on Zoom:

Attending In-Person: 

Show up at 3709 Gentian Blvd. (Across the street from SkyZone)  

  • Please arrive 10 minutes before class starts
  • Please bring pen and paper
  • Lunch or Dinner Break
    • Students can bring a packed lunch.
    • We have a Chinese and a Pizza restaurant in our complex
    • You are free to leave for 1 hour (Be back on time!)
  • Your certificate will be given to you at the end of class

Preparing for Driver Evaluation
 Call Barber’s at 706-561-2509 to schedule your  Driver Evaluation.
Preparing for Road Test (TESTING DAY INSTRUCTIONS)
 

You must now call Barber’s at 706-561-2509 and schedule your appointment.

You need a ride to Barber’s Driving School @ 3709 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA  31907 for your road test. 

Please be on time for your appointment!

  • You will need to bring your permit.
  • You will test in our car, on our course and with our instructor

If over 18 :

  • For the Georgia DDS you will need:
    • Permit
    • Road Test Certificate
    • $32

If under 18 :

  • You need a parent or legal guardian on your testing day to sign Barber’s paperwork.
  • For the Georgia DDS you will need:
    • Permit
    • Parent and $10
    • Your high school attendance and ADAP Certificate (Done in your health class)
    • Barber’s 30/6 certificate (Joshua’s Law)
    • Road Test Certificate

You can go to the Georgia DDS on the same day to get your license once you pass your road test.

However, within 1 year, you must take our paperwork to any Georgia DDS location that issues first licenses. 

They will take your picture and give you your driver’s license.

You are not a licensed driver until you go to the Georgia DDS.
